Asia Trip 2024 – Hong Kong Pt.2 – July 3

As our flight was nearing Hong Kong and we descended to a low altitude we were surrounded by lot of clouds. As we passed by the clouds gaps would appear allowing me to see the small islands scattered in the water below. In the distance I could see what looked like either a larger island or possibly the mainland. Everything had a blue tone to it which I found to be pleasing. Sadly the airplane stopped showing us the flight path so I didn’t know exactly which islands we were flying over.

We continued to descend and the plane made several banking turns I was hoping we might see Hong Kong Island out our window. There seemed to be more clouds with less openings as we approached the airport. I saw some urban area and grabbed a shot while I could. This turned out to be Kowloon Bay and the Kwun Tong District. Sadly, due to my poor view caused by the haze and clouds, I wasn’t able to get a better photograph or Kowloon or Hong Kong Island.

Kowloon Bay and the Kwun Tong District

Hong Kong Island with most of the notable buildings obscured by clouds.

Not much time passed before we made our landing. We taxied for was seemed like 30 minutes as we made our way back to the terminal. As a looked out the window most of what I could see was construction and what seemed like endless cranes. I failed to get a photo of this but I was in awe at the sight of so many cranes. The island that Hong Kong International Airport sits on is a man-made island. It seems that it was in the process of growing even larger. From my point of view at the time, it was difficult to fathom how something of this scale would or could ever be completed. I really regret not taking a photo.

The plane making a banking turn allowed me to get a photo of the wind turbines below.

Traffic in the sea.
