ASIA TRIP 2024 – CHINA – JULY 24-25

Typhoon Gaemi was heading towards us so we didn’t do much. As a result, I didn’t really take many photos.

We were fortunate that the storm lost the majority of its strength after hitting Taiwan so wind wasn’t much of an issue. However, the rainfall was something we were concerned about.

2024-07-24, 18:19 CST – The Day Before

I’m not sure what the news media says about the incoming storms in China, but unlike the U.S. where so many people panic out over regular seasonal weather. For example, regular cold fronts are now given names, three to four inches of snow is made to sound like the end of the world which causes people to buy huge amounts of food when the roads are maintained and cleared almost immediately, at least in southeastern Pennsylvania. Headlines use words like bomb, blast, and attaches ‘pocalypse to other words in order to sew fear to keep people watching/reading so the news outlets get as much ad revenue as possible. Meanwhile people in China carry on with life as if it were just another day. Grocery store shelves aren’t emptied, no one is making a big deal of it. People do prepare, but do so without going nuts about it. It’s refreshing to see. I just wonder how long it will last.

2024-07-24, 18:21 CST – All their lights worked, well somewhat. It captured my attention but wasn’t enough to get me to go in.

2024-07-25, 10:56 CST – Gaemi Makes Landfall

The delivery drivers were still out as it started to rain harder and the winds started to pick up. The winds weren’t too strong, however they did cause problems as tree branches were blown into power lines causing short power outages.

2024-07-25, 10:57 CST – Off to his next location despite the rain getting heavier.
